Artwork Description

This painting depicts my two sons and a friend fishing for 'Toadies' on a still morning after camping overnight on French Island in Western Port Bay, Victoria. The much loved old wooden boat depicted was used by these boys for many years, until deemed unsafe. It was built in about 1935 at San Remo, Philip Island and during its working life was used as a cray fishing boat working in close to the rocky ocean shore along coast around Port Philip and Westernport.

The beautiful designs of Italian Playing cards date back to the Renaissance. This set of four hand coloured and hand drawn lithographs is from the 'Bastone' suite of the classic Napoletane deck. I became fascinated with the beautiful designs when learning to play the traditional Italian card game of 'Scopa' and this set of four lithographs is an expression of my interest in these playing card designs.
