Sasanqua Camellias flower in Autumn in Sydney and these blooms, Jennifer Susan, come from a hedge that I planted in my garden over 20 years ago. The vase is from my personal collection and features nude dancing women (bacchantes) during a grape harvest. Made of malachite glass, designed by Frantisek Pazourek and unveiled in 1934 it is a classic piece from the Art Deco period. The vase is a beautiful green colour and highly detailed, even showing the dancers individual toes! Bacchantes were female followers of Bacchus, an ancient Roman god, synonymous with the Greek Dionysus. He is typically shown as the god of harvest, grapes, fertility and theatre. The vase sits on a vintage doily that was made by mum.
