On a trip to the beautiful Rajasthan, in a small town, we were lucky to stumble across a rare version of the Gavari festival. Many women were dressed in eye-popping, vivid colour, yet so often stood shy, on the sides of the action, watching. Their faces hidden, their identity unknown, they represent the millions of women in India who are acceptable to men as objects of beauty, but not as individuals or as people deserving of the power and freedom granted to their opposite sex.
