Artwork Description

This art piece is really about the story of the rose. We have lots of rose bushes in the garden, but this one has the most gorgeous deep colours — rich reds and burgundy tones that immediately reminded me of red wine.
Once I saw that connection, the wine almost had to become part of the painting too.
The cheese and glass of red felt like the perfect companions to finish the scene and make it feel complete. I think the warm ruby colours echo through the painting — from the petals to the wine to the shadows — giving everything this rich, cosy atmosphere.

Artist Bio

Contemporary paintings for everyday living.
I am an Australian artist based in Tasmania and currently hold an artist residency at Quamby Estate.
My paintings begin with stories. I am drawn to objects that have lived a life before arriving in my studio—treasures discovered in op shops, well-loved vessels, flowers gathered from my garden, and everyday items that quietly carry memories of the people who once owned them.
I also find myself drawn to the landscapes around me—the roads I travel, paddocks, rivers, old buildings and quiet corners that often go unnoticed. These ordinary places are woven into our daily lives, shaping our memories and sense of belonging, yet we rarely pause to truly see them.
Whether painting a still life or a landscape, inspiration comes from simple moments: a café table bathed in morning light, flowers freshly picked from the garden, an interesting shadow falling across a collection of objects, or the changing light across the Tasmanian countryside. These observations become the starting point for each painting.
Through colour, light and composition, I create contemporary paintings that explore connection, memory and the stories held within both objects and places. I invite viewers to wonder not only where an object has been, but also what quiet moments a familiar landscape has witnessed over time.
With more than 35 years of experience as an artist, I combine strong technical skills with a relaxed and expressive approach, creating work that feels warm, uplifting and easy to live with.
I create my paintings to bring a sense of joy to a space while encouraging people to pause, look a little closer, and discover the beauty, memories and stories hidden within the ordinary objects and everyday places that surround us.
