Artwork Description

I find that red always catches my eye in the garden, and going into Winter, the red Geraniums are about the only bloom which still has the courage to beat the odds against the frosts we have here in Tasmania.
I wanted the painting to feel bold, playful, and modern. The stripes almost work like a backdrop on a stage, letting the leaves and flowers really pop forward. I love how the primary colours bounce off one another, creating energy and warmth.
For me, it’s about taking something simple and every day — a flower from the garden — and turning it into something vibrant, joyful, and full of life.

Artist Bio

Contemporary paintings for everyday living.
I am an Australian artist based in Tasmania and currently hold an artist residency at Quamby Estate.
My paintings begin with stories. I am drawn to objects that have lived a life before arriving in my studio—treasures discovered in op shops, well-loved vessels, flowers gathered from my garden, and everyday items that quietly carry memories of the people who once owned them.
I find inspiration in the simple moments of daily life: a café table bathed in morning light, flowers freshly picked from the garden, an interesting shadow falling across a collection of objects, or a colour combination that unexpectedly catches my eye. These observations often become the starting point for a painting.
Through colour, light and composition, I arrange these objects into contemporary still lifes that explore connection, memory and the narratives held within ordinary things. Each painting becomes a collection of stories brought together in a new way, inviting viewers to wonder where these objects have come from and what moments they may have witnessed.
With more than 35 years of experience as an artist, I combine strong technical skills with a relaxed and expressive approach, creating work that feels warm, uplifting and easy to live with.
I create my paintings to bring a sense of happiness to a space, while encouraging people to pause, look a little closer, and reflect on the stories that everyday objects can hold as they pass from one life to another.
