I am a Melbourne based artist. My work includes both drawings in charcoal, graphite, colour pencil, pastels, extensive use of various erasures and oil and acrylic paintings. After leaving work as an IT professional I devoted myself full time to my arts practice. I am an active member for over 14 in Open Studio and now enrolled in Expanded Practice at The Art Room in Footscray. There I have attended numerous courses covering the fundamentals of drawing and painting, colour theory and workshops in life drawing, composition, abstraction and more.
My earliest inspirations were the works of Aubrey Beardsley and Ergon Schiele. I think these influences can be detected in much of my work. Lately with the physical, mental and emotional impact of the pandemic, the lockdowns and isolation my work has become more introverted and introspective. I depict ordinary objects, flora and fauna in surreal nature surroundings. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums and methods. I begin with a basic concept. I may then push, pull, erase, cover, wipe out during the process of completing the finished piece. This process often leads to a completely unexpected result, which usually makes me happy.
As I work quite a bit on paper in graphite and pastels the cost matting, framing of my drawings under glass and shippin is expensive and best done locally by the buyer, who is the best judge of how framing will compliment their decor.
