ON SPECIAL FOR 2024
Part of a current body of work exploring mark making, using abstract layers representing chaos, which is obscured behind an overlay and veneer.
Derived from an experimental process over the last few years, this work focuses on the tiny details of the banksia flowers and the shape of the little flowers within.
This focus on the detail becomes an obsessive process, the chaotic underlay of colour is added to the canvas and later contrasting marks placed in a veneer across these layers pulling the composition back to some form of order with these organic repetitive shapes. A process that is in itself therapeutic.
Artist statement : I am an extremely diverse artist; I believe there is much value in diversity. For me this means moving between all compositions from landscape, still life, portrait and abstract.
I love working with colour, it evokes an emotional response, and there is a symbolic strength and passion attached to applying colour to a canvas.
I have always been fearless with my use of colour which for me creates a dialogue of resilience and tenacity.
This work is professionally framed in oak, the colour of the frame has a slight Pink tone which works beautifully with the artwork this colour doesn't show up in the photo.
The frame is high quality and a snug fit, finishing the painting perfectly.
