Artwork Description

Acrylic on aluminium composite

50.5 x 50.5 x 0.3cm

framed in solid raw American ash

53 x 53 x 5 cm

Saturday mornings usually mean dropping children off to various sporting activities. Whenever possible I trap the opportunity to take a walk in the local area. This painting was inspired by an amble along the Lane Cove river one Saturday morning. The sky was overcast, but that showcased greens of the trees to full effect and made the oranges and reds of the sandstone rocks glow even more.

Painted in layers of transparent acrylic on aluminium composite this painting is framed and ready to hang with a beautiful solid American ash floating frame.

Artist Bio

Born UK 1972
Moved to Australia 1999

Kate grew up in the North West of England and originally studied the sciences. Life and a health condition lead Kate to slow down and take a break from her career and this is when she uncovered a talent for art. Kate now lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and has been painting full-time since 2016. Rather than pursuing a formal art school education, she sought out inspiring and talented artists to learn from and further developed her skills through her own exploration and rapidly growing knowledge of her materials and process.

Kate’s art practice is predominantly focused on people and place. Her portraiture seeks to capture the true character of the individuals she paints. Kate’s landscape work explores the play of light and colour in the natural world and is where her main passion lies.

Kate has been recognised for her portraiture as a finalist in the Portia Geach Award for Portraiture (2016) and the Archibald (2019). Her landscape work has been selected to hang in the Northern Beaches, Bluethumb and Hunters Hill Art Prizes, amongst others. She held her first solo exhibition ‘A Moment in Time’ at the end of 2020 at Brenda Colahan Fine Art (BCFA) in Putney. Kate’s second solo exhibition ‘Close to Home’ was held at the end of 2021. Kate has also been recognised as being one of only 50 ‘Collectable’ artists on Bluethumb out of over 11,000 artists across Australia and was named by them as one of the top 10 best new emerging Australian artists for 2021. Kate was also named one of the top landscape artists of 2023 by Bluethumb.

Kate takes selected commissions, both public and private, and has works hanging in collections in Australia (including in the University of Sydney and UTS collections), North America, Europe and Asia.
