Inspired by a beautiful and breathtaking sunset I seen on my drive home. I wanted to create a piece using bright and vibrant colours but also something soft and feminine that tells of a women’s nurturing nature.
With this I created ‘My Grandmothers Song’
This piece speaks about the three tracks taken for birthing in Miggilong (Gods country). We would follow the ecosystem and birth during the Spring months as the land was full of bush tucker, medicine and used as an important aid for our survival.
As part of this process, our elders would sing over our birthing mamas in preparation for their journey to becoming a woman. Songs to uplift, strengthen and encourage were a vital aspect of our women’s business and keeping our culture alive.
Our old people’s songs are still felt over our sacred land and my Grandmothers song continues to live and thrive here.
this piece comes with an Aboriginal authenticity certificate
