Previously featured in the Australia:We Love Our Country exhibit in B-Mac Gallery, this piece is one of very few animal paintings I have ever completed. As soon as I started to sense a sort of maternal quality/look about the sugar glider from the photo reference used, by the completion of this piece, I felt really connected to this animal in an almost spiritual way (despite that being not at all in my nature). 'it' became a 'she' in that moment and I am almost sad to see her go but I hope she can bring some joy to her new owner amongst the aussie backdrop of our iconic bottlebrush.
