while creating in my studio I often get distracted mixing memories and fantasies that will lead my work down another path.
Catching Dragonflies was me drifting off into my childhood memories and fantasies with myths and stories often retold of the mermaids existence . In this piece I have created a contemporary looking mermaid "tattooed out" with images that remind me of my grandfathers old navy tattoos.The artwork reflects a playful image that depicts idea of longing to see other worlds or experience something that seems different and unique from your own . The concept of her reaching out of the water and into the sky not only reflects this feeling but it represents how things that may seem ordinary in one world like a dragonfly can be magical if seen from another point of view.
