‘Last Christmas’ : A Tribute to George Michael
This is the tenth painting in my ‘Rock Gods’ Series which is a tribute to all the male musicians who, even in death, continue to this day to have an impact on me in some way or another either through their extreme artistic talents, lyrics, melodies, charisma, or just who they are / were.
Their music is also very nostalgic for me.
From his early days with Wham!, George wowed me with his clear cut, crystal like voice. He also had looks, charisma and a fun side that came through in some of the songs and video clips that followed, like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.
One of the songs Wham! released was Last Christmas, and to this day it is one of my favourite songs that I love to play anytime of the year.
George’s solo career was also phenomenal, as he is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. His album Ladies and Gentleman played on repeat in my household during the 1990’s.
George was only 53 when he died of natural causes on Christmas Day in 2016, so it is very fitting to name this painting ‘Last Christmas.
Vale George
May you Rest In Peace, but your music and influence live on forever.
