My current series of landscapes are from my travels throughout remote regions of Australia, and my return to the outback landscape of my childhood. These paintings are investigations of perception and interpretation of the landscape, looking at the journeys and paths we take through life, do we go forward or are we always crossing paths with the present and past. I look for inspiration for later abstraction then use light and colour to evoke the immense power and infinite vastness of the space. I like to translate the energy and the complex interactions that occur between people and the rich, bold earthy colours of the outback to create a sense of discovery. The experience of being in remote, infinite spaces gives you a connection with the land and can be very immediate and instinctive.
