I wanted to start creating a series of works designed to be enjoyed by both sighted and unsighted people.
This specific piece has started with plasticine being molded and shaped into an autumn tree with bare branches and falling leaves. These pieces were allowed to dry out slightly and then adhered directly onto the acrylic background painted on the canvas. Another thick layer of glue is added over the shape of the plasticine once it has dried into position, allowing the product to set. Finally, the tactile tree trunk, branches and leaves are painted so as to be enjoyed by sighted and non-sighted patrons alike!
VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Bright yellow acrylic paint background with swirls of silver throughout. A tactile representation of a tree trunk and bare branches has been created from plasticine and rough bark has been delineated through both touch and the use of browns, grey and white acrylic paint. Leaves have also been added, with a number still attached to branches, some falling and others littering the ground. These have been painted with shades of green, yellow and orange acrylic paints, and are also tactilely detailed for the sight-impaired.
