Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This artwork comes with an external frame

This piece is the second in the Hypnagogic in Hawaii series, and is inspired by time spent on the islands of Hawaii (I currently work from the two studios, one in Melbourne and now also in Honolulu). The word ‘Hypnagogic’ fabulously means that moment between sleep and waking when images are somewhere in-between real and abstract. This piece also draws upon the idea of Mono no Aware (Japanese for an awareness of impermanence), as Hawaii is growing and eroding and changing visibly.. the islands themselves are alive, and the seems less distinction between what is solid, liquid and gas (i.e. molten rock, eroding oceans, constant mists of clouds that blend into the mountains).

As with all my works, this piece is multi-layered with acrylic pours, skins, and light washes. It comes framed in ethically sourced Douglas Fir, read to hang, and free worldwide shipping from the Honolulu studio.
