Artwork Description

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

This colourful, feminine, sexy and seeming uplifting painting has a hidden darker meaning which is alluded to in the title. "Great Expectations" refers to the high expectations of women to look like the models in fashion magazines; as evidenced by the tiny mountain climbers who climbing up the back.
The background pattern of the paintings extends and wraps around the sides of the canvas. The artist signature is on the back, along with wire so it's ready to hang.

The painting is of a girl in a gold patterned dress, holding a green frog in the palm of her hand. She stands in a lush green garden as she peers at the frog.Medusa faces a mirror image of herself, without serpent hair. The painting shows Medusa, standing proudly with a gold snake wrapped around her arm as she hold up a small bowl of water for her snakes. This painting is inspired by Klimt's depiction of Hygeia, in his painting of Medicine for the University of Vienna, which has since been destroyed.

Hygieia is a goddess of health and hygiene, and is the mythological daughter of the god of medicine. I have used a figure similar to Klimt's, but shown her as Medusa, keeping the gold snake around her arm. Like most of Klimt's women, she is powerful and beautiful. She is looking down at the viewer with her all seeing gaze.A boy & a girl sitting in a pea green row boat at sunset
