Oil on canvas, ready to hang.
Signed on the back.
The painting has dual meaning. Firstly, it makes reference to how woman are often described as edible objects ("yummy mummy" for example), though the use of the pieces of cake in the clothing. Secondly, women are often expected to wait on men (mothers, secretaries, waitresses). Often in the corporate world, if there is a sole woman in a meeting or a department, it often falls on her to order coffees or tidy up after a meeting. It’s a subconscious assumption that is indoctrinated into us from childhood: women are made to serve. Hence the subject of this painting offer a silver platter as a metaphor for her services.
This painting was a finalist for the Lethbridge 10000 art prize in 2018.
