IRIS was the goddess of the rainbow and the messenger of the Olympian gods. For the coastal-dwelling Greeks, the rainbow's arc was most often seen spanning the distance beteween cloud and sea, and so the goddess was believed to replenish the rain-clouds with water from the ocean. Her name contains a double meaning, being connected with both the Greek word Iris "the rainbow" and Eiris "messenger."

Artist Bio

Welcome — I’m Lee Wilde, a Sydney-based visual artist and poet drawn to the quiet power of monochromatic portraiture. My work explores the emotional depth and complexity of women through pared-back palettes, expressive linework, and tonal nuance. Each piece is a study in contrast — light and shadow, presence and absence, memory and immediacy.

I’ve sold over 1,400 originals to collectors worldwide, and my studio remains a space of intimate experimentation. Working with black, white, and everything in between, I aim to distill feeling into form and invite viewers into the stillness behind the gaze.
