Liz, an Australian-born artist with a lifelong passion for drawing and painting enjoys expressing her vision and imagination on canvas. After a long office bound 15-year career in finance with various finance institutions in the heart of Sydney CBD, she rekindled her love for art, embarking on a formal journey of creative exploration in particular during the global financial crisis.
Her artistic education began with evening life drawing, undertaking courses in watercolour, and classical drawing with the Julian Ashton Art School in The Rocks, Sydney.
Liz has also completed a Diploma of Visual Arts from Northbridge Visual Art School. Her love of learning saw her also complete a numerous art courses, including courses at Art Est in Leichhardt and Dutch Masters classical portrait oil painting at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Spent a term with the former Epping Life Drawing, entered the Hornsby Art Prize and was member for a period attending evening art sessions.
Her artistic interest is not limited to painting, with pyrography and an interest in clay sculpture, Additionally, Liz continues to shares her love of art by teaching at workshops such as in Surry Hills and previously at St Leonards White Rhino artspace.
Liz has also completed the Natural History Illustration course with the University of Newcastle given her natural adoration of plants, animals and the environment.
Inspirations are often linked to the ideals of conservation and preservation of environment and wildlife. Natural history illustrators of Cayley, Durer and Gould are notable illustrative greats that she draws inspiration.
Of the greats there are too many to name, Monet, Michelangelo, Bruegel, Margaret Preston, Van Gogh, Pissarro and Hokusai are also some favourites.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Liz holds a Bachelor and Masterโs degree in Commerce from the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, respectively. This diverse background enriches her unique artistic perspective, blending the detail required finance with the creativity of visual arts.
Influenced mainly by both the classical and impressionism. Her artworks are composed to capture a sense of harmony with texture, colours and attention to detail for an overall aesthetic for compositional harmony or to reflect naturalistic tendencies of beauty of asymmetry. Her esoteric interest in graphic novels such as Chris Ware also influence her artwork concepts.Her artworks seek to explore and observe the interconnection of relationships that exists with nature, everyday living and the beauty of asymmetry and glorious imperfections in nature and people.
On her days out of the studio she is walking her dog, chatting to budgies, gardening. She loves spending her time by a fire pit with a glass of wine, skiing basically, kayaking and travelling the world.
