Persian carpets have been part of my life since early chidhood, when my parents taught my brother and I the basis of knotted carpet design. We spent many happy hours in front of the large loom, following the ‘cartoon’pattern, counting stitches, cutting the wool into appropriate lengths, using shuttles etc…A few years ago I started a new series of persian inspired paintings. Older parsian carpets have a particular character, which I find alluring. This painting is the latest in the series, where the distressed/worn quality has been emulated. This destressing of the top layer alludes to the palimpsest idea of reworking/removing /changing the final artwork
