The concept of solitude has long been a central theme in my work, evoking a rich and complex spectrum of emotions. It is not merely the absence of companionship, but a profound engagement with oneself. This new series, Solitary Horizons an extension of Exploring The Solitary, represents a further exploration of this journey — an extension of my ongoing dialogue with landscape, light, and the human spirit, inviting viewers to delve even more deeply into the inner worlds that have inspired my art for years. In Solitary Horizons, solitude is portrayed as a sanctuary for creativity and clarity. These Australian landscape paintings offer spaces where thoughts can roam freely, where the outside world’s chaos fades, and we are left to confront our innermost feelings. The series illustrates how quiet reflection can become a source of strength, insight, and personal growth, transforming isolation into an opportunity for understanding and renewal.

In The Luminous Between, drama fills the sky. Deep black and grey clouds sweep across the canvas, their darkness cut open by immense, white-highlighted forms that blaze with shifting light. Beneath this sky of turbulence and brilliance stands a solitary red tree, glowing with quiet intensity against the straight grey horizon line.

This painting tells of thresholds — of the space between storm and calm, shadow and radiance, fragility and strength. The solitary tree becomes a figure of resilience, luminous against the weight of the sky. As part of the Solitary Horizons series, this square-format oil painting reflects the human spirit in its endurance and its light. Lucinda Leveille is an Australian landscape artist based in Queensland, known for atmospheric oil paintings that explore weather, stillness, distance and the emotional presence of place.
