A watchful Hooded Plover on the beach. Painted on a solid slab of European Maple (the top edge has a natural edge).
Hooded Plovers occur on sandy beaches between Jervis Bay, New South Wales and the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia and also in Tasmania, Esperance, and as far north as Jurien Bay which is about 200km north of Perth.
These delicate little plovers breed on sandy beaches, the eggs and chicks often suffer due to the presence of vehicles or dogs on beaches. The are a threatened species and a favourite of bird watchers given their distinctive markings and watchful presence on the beach.
Could be hung on the wall but it is designed so it can be free standing as per the in-situ photo. The timber has a beautiful subtle grain throughout.
