I never like wasting materials in the studio, so the origin of this piece was the reuse of two canvas offcuts. These were painted and then stitched together on Mum’s faithful Bernina sewing machine. Once stretched the composition suggested a horizon line and landscape.

Often when mixing oils for other paintings you end up with beautiful colours but they aren’t right for the particular piece or you end up mixing large volumes attempting to find the right colour mix. I never feel good about discarding paint so I always have a few pieces that I’m slowly building up layers on using these mixes. Pink Landscape evolved over the course of 2020 through the addition and alteration of the colour palette gradually.
