Real Gold Lustre Surface on Ceramic

Pair of hand built ceramic sculptures plated entirely in gold.

Made with Kurinuki technique carved from a single block of clay.

The sculptures are plated with real gold. The gold lustre is applied before the third firing in an oil suspension. The oil burns away to reveal the gold plating. Each ceramic piece has spent over 100 hours in a kiln over three separate firings. The maximum temperature reached is 1280 degrees celcius. The gold is applied before the third and last firing.

The stoneware has a matt finish. However the melted iron particles are shiny and show sparkles of gold within the matt gold surface.
