Hatched only hours ago and lying in the burrow surrounded by the debris of its own egg-shell, a kiwi chick waits for its feathers to dry.
Kiwis are amazing birds. Their chicks hatch as miniature adults, able to forage for themselves. I have held a fascination for them for many years, spending hours studying them in kiwi houses across New Zealand. My first commission for a painting of a kiwi was for the Tawharanui Regional Park TOSSI committee as a gift to a member to commemorate the opening of a predator proof fence. A great deal of effort is being made to ensure the survival of these vulnerable birds.
Artwork is ready to frame or hang as is (hung with eye-hooks and wire) and is rendered in professional artists’ acrylic on stretched canvas.
