So a few days ago we went to a beautiful restaurant in Ryde and it turned out to be Banjo Patterson’s Grandmothers house. This quote was on the menu, it touched me so much, I knew I had to paint it. It was written by AB “Banjo” Patterson, describing the home he was born in which is out near Orange. Long gone now.
“I see the old bush homestead now
On Kiley’s Run,
Just nestled down beneath the brow,
Of one small ridge above the sweep
Of river flat,
Where willows weep
And jasmine flowers and roses bloom,
The air was laden with perfume,
On Kiley’s Run.......
You should read the whole poem, so beautiful, full of yearning and special memories of that place he was born.
