Watercolour on paper
Signed on the back.
This artwork was created on archival cotton rag paper using watercolour pencils and washes in shades of pink, red, grey, and blue. It is a study from the artwork by Pisanello, Initial S: The Conversion of Saint Paul, dated about 1440- 1450.
Navigating through the work, I painted my own interpretation, emphasising the circular sweeping direction of the shapes and the motion of the figures.
Through my personal sensitivity in arranging colour and form, this artwork is less about the underlying original meaning and more of a study of how I merge and blend shapes to communicate a new significance that encompasses watercolour and the concept of painting from opaque to translucent.
