My work has been highly influenced by the world of commercial art and graphic design. This translates in my art in many ways. My still life paintings are careful composition full of allegories, which capture a moment in time where all represented items are meaningful beyond the composition.
'Red Cons, Coke & Crap' captures a day in the life of a young adult/teen. Their stuff is strewn about, chucked on the floor without much thought. But each item is an allegory of youth, and the journey into adult hood.
shoes = finding a path
glasses = vision
discarded coke can = spent energy
money = freedom
keys = responsibility
dice key ring = risk
USB = study
Artline pens = own voice
paper crane covered in doodles = creativity
The Chuck Taylor All Star shoes are a reoccurring motif in some of my artworks as they are both nostalgic and a modern trend. While they were designed in 1917, they have been a popular shoe since the 1950s, and are still produced, sold and worn by kids today.
This painting is one in a series of still life painting with glasses, money shoes and other mundane everyday items.
