Frida Kahlo needs no introduction. The Mexican born painter renowned for her self portraits and use of bright colours, captured both her difficult life and homeland in a fascinating expression of reality mixed with surrealistic elements. She often depicted pain and death in her work and drew inspiration from Mexican folk art. I wanted to paint Frida, not looking too traumatised and this image was inspired by a calendar belonging to my mentor Sarah.
This portrait of Frida takes the view of how I like to think of her. Flamboyantly looking into a mirror.
