Artwork Description

This painting is a lively, colourful floral still life in a glass vase. The flowers are painted in warm shades of red, pink, coral and orange, with highlights of yellow and white blossoms interspersed throughout. The leaves are rendered in varying greens, with strokes of blue and turquoise blending into the background.
The background itself is a soft teal-blue, brushed with hints of light green and lavender, creating a dreamy, atmospheric quality.. The brushwork is loose and expressive, with bold strokes that give the painting a sense of movement and spontaneity.
Overall, the artwork conveys joy and vibrancy, celebrating the natural beauty of flowers with an impressionistic and slightly abstract style. It feel uplifting, energetic, and full of life.

Artist Bio

Based on Coochiemudlo, a smaller island situated approximately a kilometre off the coast of Queensland, between Brisbane and North Stradbroke Island, Millie, an award winning artist, is innately influenced by the abundance of foliage and wildlife that inhabit her locality.
Unbound to a sole medium or creative methodology, her depictions align with the subject’s intrinsic elements and resonance. Millie paints in a way that depicts her thoughts and feelings of the subject, which has helped her tremendously throughout her adult life and experiences.
“There is no grief as you embrace and involve yourself deeply within the subject of your painting,” Millie states after the passing of her only son in 2003. “Painting was a lifesaving form of comfort at the time of my son’s passing, and continues to be up to the present moment.”
Millie possesses a BA in Fine Arts from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland.
