My Artist In Residency in the Pilbara has forever changed my admiration for nature's ability to adapt and bloom. The big red landscape with extreme temperatures and harsh sunlight during brings out amazing colours of the flora that survives in these conditions.
I was enchanted with the magical colour changes that occurred as the sun was going down on another hot day. Blues and purples emerged and colours twinkled in the last light of the day. I was inspired to try and capture this moment in these works.
The Brachychiton or more commonly known as the 'desert kurrajong' are found mostly in northern and Western Australia. The pods are protected in the most amazing star shaped robust shells. They lay protected in a cocoon like bed huddled together. I wanted to focus on the character of these stunning shapes and capture the beautiful colours as the sun went down over another hot day.
I am forever changed by my Pilbara experience and will constantly revisit with my artwork to try to capture the unique landscape and its resilient flora.
This piece will come to you in a back box frame with perspex front. The interior shots are for inspiration and may not be to perfect scale.
I hope you enjoy sharing in the Pilbara flora as much as I did with this artwork.
