BIOGRAPHY
Myra is an abstract artist with a passion for colour. She enjoys creating vibrant and textural works of art. Through the use of colour and form she seeks to connect with others by expressing emotion through her art. Originally from Scotland, she now lives on the Mornington Peninsula Australia surrounded by birds and wildlife. Myra likes to work intuitively, enjoying the interplay of different textures and colours on the canvas. She is excited by the dynamic unpredictability of abstract painting and enjoys the physicality of working on larger pieces.
Myra has had her work featured in a variety of art exhibitions, galleries and corporate spaces including the Victorian Office of the Solicitor General. She has had paintings on display at Alumina, OneFortyOne Plantations, ARA Group, Wrays, CoWork Me, Waterman, BDO and The Melbourne Veterinary College amongst others. She has works on permanent display at local cafes and the Bendigo Bank. She also has her work in Art/Edit And Interior Design magazine. She is an enthusiastic contributor to a variety of art shows and teaches abstract art.
ARTISTS STATEMENT
I create powerful abstract paintings that express emotion and excite imagination. My paintings are vibrant and energetic and are designed to fill a room with dynamism. I use my passion for bold colours to express exuberance and joy. I also create paintings that use soft colours to convey a nurturing energy. In this way I like to explore feelings such as solitude, reflection and tranquility. The medium of paint allows me to reach out to others by creating work that stirs emotion. I am always thrilled when someone is touched by one of my paintings. For me, painting facilitates an intimate connection that extends far beyond words.
I paint intuitively letting colour and form lead the way as I build upon interesting strokes and textures. My creativity leads me to be experimental with tools and materials and to produce something unique and personal. I become lost in the creative process when I am working as my emotions and energy are embedded into the painting as it emerges. I find larger pieces particularly fulfilling as they allow me to be physically immersed in the painting as I reach out to make large gestures and use sweeping strokes to create swathes of colour. The ability of art to feed the soul cannot be underestimated and I take pleasure in creating beautiful and enduring pieces that will be a part of someone’s personal journey. I take pride in my work and use quality canvases and archival paints that will endure over time.
