My husband and I visited the Rocklea fruit markets recently and I couldn't resist grabbing lots of fruit so that I could set up a bold still life painting. The persimmon was a real challenge. I set up the display with an entirely different cloth but it didn't seem to suit, and I thought that a picnic blanket would look better. It did! I painted the piece in an impressionistic, loose style and in areas the paint is thick with lots of texture.
