Artwork Description

When I was being 'loose' and tossing paint about on the canvas, low and behold a bird popped out at me. In fact I saw two birds. One is dominant and is very like the butcher birds that fly about my garden. This fictional bird also has a tail like a willy wag tail as well as magpie features. Its colours: green, blue and yellow are the colours of my first pet budgerigar. The colourful tail is inspired by brightly coloured exotic birds that are highly attractive and a wonder to be seen. The other bird, less conspicuous, you have to look for - I'll give you a clue: its a parrot. I then developed an abstract bush setting based on many of the blooms I see on my daily walks. I am constantly surprised by the spectacular flowers I find from the tiny daisy-like weeds growing on the roadside verge, to the red flowers bursting all over the gum trees. This work is on a large canvas and would display well taking pride-of-place on a dominant feature wall.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist from Perth fascinated by pattern‚ being aware that it is basic human nature to look for pattern when trying to make sense of one's surroundings. Usually I work in acrylics as well as drawing patterns in india ink, though I explore other media for variety. Of late I have been following a passion for colour and texture. Many have ask why I have so many different styles. My answer comes down to inspiration. I wake up, often in the early hours, with a 'demanding' idea (vision really) in my head and that is all I can think of until I have produced a variety of works in that theme. Recently someone noted that I am using quite a bit of black. Well if it was good enough for Matisse...
Art is simply my passion. (Cliche I know.) Getting my ideas finally onto canvas or paper -whatever media- can be challenging, uplifting, stimulating and ultimately a fulfilling sense of achievement. I often look at my work and think, 'Wow, did I make that?!'
