When I was being 'loose' and tossing paint about on the canvas, low and behold a bird popped out at me. In fact I saw two birds. One is dominant and is very like the butcher birds that fly about my garden. This fictional bird also has a tail like a willy wag tail as well as magpie features. Its colours: green, blue and yellow are the colours of my first pet budgerigar. The colourful tail is inspired by brightly coloured exotic birds that are highly attractive and a wonder to be seen. The other bird, less conspicuous, you have to look for - I'll give you a clue: its a parrot. I then developed an abstract bush setting based on many of the blooms I see on my daily walks. I am constantly surprised by the spectacular flowers I find from the tiny daisy-like weeds growing on the roadside verge, to the red flowers bursting all over the gum trees. This work is on a large canvas and would display well taking pride-of-place on a dominant feature wall.
