I wanted to paint a vibrant Western Rosella, related to the Eastern Rosella but smaller and more docile. A sweet bird with beautiful colours is the focus of this botanical artwork with an art nouveau twist. Perched on a wattle branch and surrounded by an expressively flowing wreath of bottlebrush and grevillea is the beautifully coloured bird. Leaves and gum flowers are scattered throughout the background.
The ink lines are built up to hold the watercolour washes and shapes of the subjects, giving the effect of stained glass.
Painted with artists quality materials on 300gsm Arches watercolour paper.
The painting meaures 44.5x53cm and is unframed
