There is an Australian cupcake culture. Cupcakes are very popular, come in a wide variety and Australians love their cupcakes. I could easily go to the shops and buy any cupcakes I wanted. But I preferred to bake, glaze and decorate my own cupcakes. I cut flowers from my garden and put in a vase. Then I started painting … Well, not really. But, I did pour myself Orange Pekoe tea into my favourite orange cup to get inspired.
One of the paintings from the Tea Time Series that are bubbling with colours. I tried to create an inviting warm feeling of a tea party. My still lives from the Tea Time Series are telling stories about people. Although people stay out of the picture, their presence is felt. It was them who set up a table, baked a cake, put flowers in a vase and poured tea into a cup. They can be back any minute. It’s about someone’s tea party, a birthday celebration or a get-together with a close friend. Bent crawling spoons, dancing cups and tea pots add dynamics to otherwise would be static still life paintings.
