Set against the backdrop of Hobart, this is the painting that began my fascination with depicting the urban landscape - a series of paintings dominated by buildings seen in bright sunlight and long shadows. While the naked figures, who might be akin to Adam and Eve, only appear in the first two paintings, other elements have tended to recur, such as the lone tree and the absence of any other figures or movement. I've aimed to convey a dream-like atmosphere. While I completed this in 2011, it has maintained its relevance to my work both in terms of composition and style. I prefer not to "pretty up" the edges of my canvas once a painting is completed, allowing the painterly marks to remain until the work is framed.
