I recently combined my passion of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, off the Western Australian coast, with my fascination of the Batavia shipwreck, resulting in a three part series titled "Batavia Aground", depicting a time line of that dreaded day.. This particular piece 'First Light' is the first work and captures the first morning of the ship running aground and the utter desolation of this tragic shipwreck.
