“Spirit birds she creaks and groans, she knows she has, seen this all before she has, seen this all before”
Song and words by Xavier Rudd
The sacred and endangered Red Tailed Black Cockatoo are a native bird that reside in our national park in Lake Conjola.
The New Year’s Eve 2019 bushfires devastated our National Park. So much wildlife lost their homes.
My most vivid memory from that day was watching the native birds fly overhead towards the sanctuary of the ocean away form the approaching fire.
Along the water front near green island the bush land was saved.
Now months later the native birds have taken residence in the coastal banksia and casuarina trees along the beach, as they still grow green and wild.
There the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo can be seen in the tops of the trees watching over Green Island while the land heals and rejuvenates.
