Kathakali meaning 'Story-Play' is a well known dance drama from southwestern India. The story in Kathakali is communicated to the audience through the movements of the hands (mudras), impressive facial expressions (rasas) and body movements complimented with music and vocal performance. I have always been intrigued by the intricate and vivid make-up, unique face masks and costumes worn by the performers.
