A contemporary painting depicting the ocean lapping the sandstone shelves along our coast. From the Sediments of Time series which expands the theme of my recent collections exploring Australia’s unique ecosystem, diverse topography, and colour. This series depicts the rich sandstone which adorns Australia's coastline, its undulating permutations, variation in colour and grain and the strata layers of natural sediment, nooks crannies and hidden gems deposited and buried long ago. The 'blocks' in this work play on our utility of sandstone for constuction and the relics of buildings scattered along our shores.
Approximately 15 layers of acrylic medium and paint are used to build the relief texture, colour overlay and detail. Accents of glass beads provide a hint of shimmer. Shapes and contours are carved into the medium, using mostly non-traditional objects. Canvas is stretched and ready to hang.
