Olive-backed sunbirds like to inhabit the Calliandra tree, commonly known as the "powderpuff tree" because of its pink flowers. Yellow-bellied sunbirds are only tiny and are found in sub-tropical parts of Australia. There are three male birds in the painting with their splendid blue throats and one female bird, who is all yellow underneath.
This is a tall canvas and the birds are painted larger than lifesize.
I paint in an impressionistic style, aiming to capture the overall effects of daylight and shade, on a natural setting, rather than photographic detail.

Painting is ready to frame, or can be hung as it is. Canvas edges are painted white (see photo).
