'Storm' #4 is part of 6 works painted with watercolour & ink of various sea and storm scenes inspired by Maroubra beach. It captures the rising storm - cloud formation, rough sea, strong winds and crashing waves. Each work is painted on traditional handmade bark paper known as Masi made by the locals in Fiji.
Masi is most commonly made from the inner bark of a Mulberry, the tree is cut down and dried for a few days. The bark is then stripped off, with the outer bark separated from the inner bark. The strips of the fibre are then placed on a wooden anvil and beaten with wooden clubs. The bark is repeatedly beaten and folded β the strips overlapped and the joints beaten until they become firmly joined together. The soft cloth like paper is then sun dried. Masi paper is unique in its texture and form, and thus in its mark making.
'Storm' #4 is beautifully framed in a white timber float frame and was part of the New Talent Exhibition at Robin Gibson Gallery, Sydney in 2016.
