in 2012 I left a 16 year career in newspaper/magazines advertising to follow my dream of becoming an artist, based on what I was capable of as a 12 year old... yes that is right... 12!
I had never had a gap year, or travelled when I was younger and decided to go all in, so sold my house, quit my job and booked my ticket to Europe. First stop Paris. I explored on foot, walking for hours every day. One of those days was a walk to Jardin des Plantes (Garden of the plants), where I saw the worst thing in Paris... the zoo. My heart hurt at the site of the chimps in small closures. I had walked away with a heavy heart and then just as I thought I would head back to my apartment, I turned a corner and was greeted by this field of poppies, an utter feast for the eyes that went some way to mending my sad heart.
When I finally return home to Oz, I knew I needed to recapture the colour of that field and remember it forever.
