Although Cockatoo is a bit of a comedian and doesn't mind a cheeky nibble on your handrails and anything else they can get their beaks into, cockatoo also likes to snack on seeds and grains, flowers and nuts. I've used all these elements from Cockatoo's habitat to create his image. There is a faint outline of gum leaves in the background behind him.
The frame is very pretty with flowers and leaves and seeds and compliments the artwork beautifully.
Drypoint engraving is a complex process. First I take a plate of acrylic (perspex) and use a sharp pointed scribe to scratch the design (in reverse), freehand onto the plate. Then it is inked up and the excess ink wiped off the surface to just leave it in the scratches I've made. Then under the etching press with the paper over. The "paper" is made of archival cotton rag. With this process I can make a limited edition of prints, usually around 20 and then that plate cannot be used anymore. This is actual printmaking, not a mass produced print as such.
