For this painting I have taken a strong Aussie icon, the Laughing Kookaburra and presented him in a Japanese style. I've always been drawn to the beauty and simplicity of Japanese wood block prints, and I'm fascinated by how they influenced the European Impressionist painters, and paved the way for Modern art.
I have produced two paintings in this series and I'm continuing to explore the use of backgrounds and layering in these works on paper.
