Artwork Description

This painting is inspired by the giant peppercorn tree growing in the cul-de-sac at the end of my street. It's often full of carolling Magpies. It's no secret that I have a love affair with Asian aesthetics, and so naturally when ever I look at this tree, it reminds me of an Oriental willow scene, which I hope to have captured in this work, without losing it's uniquely Australian vibe.

I am continuing my exploration of mark making with line using calligraphy brushes, and varying my paint consistency from opaque to watery washes. Please zoom in and look at all the photos to see the intricate details on the Magpie plumage.
