Having grown up in Africa I've always felt a strong connection to nature and the earth.
The African series is based on some photos I took in the Kruger National Park a few years back. Nothing can prepare you for the majestic, calm presence of a bull elephant.
Their size and power is breathtaking.
This painting was made during the recent heatwave in Sydney. I think it was about 30 degrees (c) in my studio when I painted this and that was after dark.
It's a personal reflection of 2 very different times in my life - my start in Africa and my current life in Australia.
