This painting is about inclusion and identity. I have appropriated two iconic artworks, the first by French artist Henri Rousseau (The Snake Charmer, 1907) and the second by British artist George Raper, (Eastern Grey Kangaroo, 1789). I chose these two artists, as I was drawn to their interpretations and perspective of the old world as well as their historic backgrounds and culture. Being a French immigrant to Australia, I want to create a piece that I could relate to where the artworks are juxtaposed against my home-town, Mount Wollumbin. the artwork is meant to evoke a sense of belonging, peace and a union of multiple cultures.
