There is a true story behind this is painting ... close friends were selling their lovely home on the Mornington Peninsula. Standing on the elevated balcony enjoying the view across the Moorooduc Plains during the 'open for inspection', I overheard a couple saying that they wish they had their rifle so they could pop off the sulphur crested cockatoos that were swooping and squawking around the treetops. When I said 'you're joking', or something similar, the woman assured me that she was a shooter, had a rifle and thought that would be a great way to spend a happy hour or two. The incident wouldn't leave my mind as I pondered that mentality and how our flora and fauna are so often maligned and anything in our modern world that inconveniences us simply has to go. So I felt compelled to paint these lovely birds high in the Australian sky where no harm could befall them and they could truly dance in the wind together in their magnificence.
